PASSPORT/VISA
From 1 October 2004, all British passport holders inclucing children and infants will only be permitted to enter the United States if they hold a machine readable passport. Should your passport not be machine readable it will be necessary to either obtain a new passport or to obtain a US visa.

Visa applicants are required to obtain visa application form DS-156 either by down loading from the US embassy website, calling 09055 444546 (£1.30 per minute) or sending a stamped, self-addressed A-4 sized envelope with 28p postage to: United States Visa Forms, P.O. Box 499 Leeds, LS3 1XU.

* Please note that under certain circumstances (e.g. if you have a criminal record), you will need a visa!

INOCULATIONS & MEDICAL PRECAUTIONS
There are no vaccinations currently required for travelling to the US. For the Latest information please check with your Doctor for the latest advice or pick up DHSS Leaflet T4.

ALCOHOL
Liquor laws are strict in the USA. Under 21 you will not be able to buy alcohol! If you plan to buy achohol carry some identity with you to prove your age!

Please note that you cannot carry alcohol in your car unless it is safely locked up in the boot. Remember, DO NOT drink and DRIVE.

INSURANCE
We strongly advise that you take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance prior to your vacation.
MEDICAL and EMERGENCY

There is a walk in Medical Centre situated next to Walmart’s car park and 5 minutes further along ( turn right from Southern Dunes) you will find the main general hospital.

The pharmacies are great and we have found the assistants to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

Each house also has a direct link to the Fire Dept, Ambulance and Police Dept. on the alarm control panel.

AIR TRAVEL
Orlando International Airport (MCO) handles all scheduled flights from airlines such as B.A., Virgin Atlantic, Continental, American Airlines etc.

Sanford handles all charter flights available from airlines such as Thomas Cook, Air 2000 & First Choice, My Travel.

FIRE ANTS
Being aware of your surroundings at all times is the way to avoid everything from car wrecks to rattlesnake bites. If fire ants do crawl onto your skin, they first bite with their mandibles in order to anchor for the thrust of the sting. As soon as you feel this pinching sensation, quickly sweep the ants off before they actually sting and you can avoid most of the damage!

For a bite remedy Peppermint essential oil works very well. If you apply it immediately after being bitten it dramatically lessons the pain and shortens the entire infection process.

Those nights that you wake up in agony, rub a small amount on the affected areas and after a few minutes the pain subsides.

You can purchase essential oils at most health food stores and a lot of grocery stores carry these products as well.
